Every game will end someday. Therefore, every game needs a plan of how to best end. However, there are multiple best ends: technical, legal, community and even personal. The best time to plan for exactly how to end a game is when that game is still being built. This session will discuss best practices in shutdown planning from the perspective of a team that forgot to do any of that at the right time, and had to scramble at the worst possible moment. Details and specifics will be discussed.

Takeaway

Attendees will understand the full scope of shutting down a free-to-play game, especially a game as a service. Specific topics will include legal, business, design and community aspects that are needed to shut down a game well.
