Moody Gamers: Measuring Mood in User Experience Sessions

The science and measurement of human temperament/mood/state has been ongoing since the early days of psychology. The mood state of gamers in UX testing has been the focus of Wargaming.net for the last year. Using peer reviewed research methods, we tested and modified our mood scale with over 300 gamers, in over 30 user experience studies. We argue that mood can be more important than demographics, and can provide insight into the various forms of feedback we received from players during UX testing. We have data which shows that understanding the mood state before, during and after a UX test is extremely important.

Takeaway

Participants in this session will take away a copy of our scale, normative data for comparison, and an understanding of how to use the scale, its limitations, and the pros and cons.
