CANCELLED - Founder, Heal Thyself: Facilitating Founder Communities

Dave Mariner  |  CEO, Founders Anonymous

Location: Room 122, North Hall

Format: Roundtable
Track: Business, Marketing & Management
Vault Recording: Not Recorded

There is an assumption that company founders are superhuman, with a crystal clear vision of where we're going and how to get there; yet, the reality is that we are all far from perfect. Opportunities for us to talk about how we're doing rather than what we're doing are few and far between, and sharing comes with real risks. As a result, we hide our doubts and insecurities, all too often ending in founder burnout, depression and (in rare cases) even suicide. Whilst startup life has been described as "brutal," it needn't be. If we can be more open about our challenges and shortcomings we can reduce the risks associated with starting studios, leading to more successful businesses, more job creation and higher ROI. Over the course of three sessions, we will discuss how to foster a safe and secure framework to enable founders to come together and support each other. Each session will focus on a different aspect, covering group sessions, one-on-one facilitation, and how to help when things ultimately go past the point of no return.

Takeaway

Attendees can expect to leave the sessions with a toolbox for building a more successful grassroots community support ecosystem, an understanding of existing practices from communities around the world, and an expanded network through which to share key learnings and best practices of community support activities, both now and in the future.

Intended Audience

These sessions are suited for anyone with a strong interest in reducing startup failure as a result of founder burnout. Expected attendees are community leaders, co-founders, investors and other players in the startup ecosystem. The sessions can also provide a healthy dose of realism for anyone considering starting their own game studio.
